Suggested Routes

From Johannesburg

  • Take N3 to Durban, turn just before Villiers toll gate and travel to Frankfort. At the T-junction turn right, pass Frankfort, just after the bridge crossing the Wilge River, turn left on the R26. This road passes Tweeling, and Reitz on the way to Bethlehem.
  • Once in Bethlehem pass the Wimpy (on left) and at the 4-way stop turn right in a one-way called Eeufees Street which later becomes Church Street.
  • Turn left at the 6th robot, once again onto the R26 to Fouriesburg and Ficksburg. Pass Foruiesburg town and at the bottom of the hill turn left onto the R711 to Clarens. About 1 km up the hill, turn right to Caledonspoort (border post) after about 1 km turn right onto the S344 (there is a Pumula sign).
  • Our main gate is 5 km down this dirt road on your right. Go through the main gate and carry on straight down the dirt road, over the dam wall and turn left on the path to reception.

From Bloemfontein (this would also be the better route from Cape Town)

(Coming from Cape Town travel on the N1 to Bloemfontein)

  • Take the N8 to Ladybrand, this route goes via Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu. From Ladybrand the road becomes the R26 (the N8 turns right to Maseru). This road (R26) passes Clocolan and Ficksburg.
  • Before Fouriesburg town at the bottom of a hill turn right onto the R711 to Clarens. About 1 km up the hill, turn right to Caledonspoort (border post) after about 1 km turn right onto the S344 (there is a Pumula sign).
  • Our main gate is 5 km down this dirt road on your right. Go through the main gate and carry on straight down the dirt road, over the dam wall and turn left on the path to reception.

From Durban

Route 1

  • Take N3 to Johannesburg, turn left on the R74. This road goes via Winterton and Bergville, then up the Olifantshoek pass and past the Sterkfontein dam.
  • At the T-junction turn left to Phuthaditjhaba on the R712. This road goes through Golden Gate National Park to Clarens. Just before Clarens turn left on the R711 to Fouriesburg.
  • At Fouriesburg, turn left to Caledonspoort (border post) after about 1 km turn right onto the S344 (there is a Pumula sign).
  • Our main gate is 5 km down this dirt road on your right. Go through the main gate and carry on straight down the dirt road, over the dam wall and turn left on the path to reception.

Route 2 

  • Take N3 to Johannesburg. At Harrismith take the N5 (route to Kestell and Bethlehem). Just outside Harrismith turn left on the R74 (to Bergville) carry on straight (please do NOT continue straight via Kestell this a very dangerous road with many accidents), this road becomes the R712 to Phuthaditjhaba and then through Goldengate National Park to Clarens.
  • Just before Clarens turn left on the R711 to Fouriesburg. At Fouriesburg, turn left to Caledonspoort (border post) after about 1 km turn right onto the S344 (there is a Pumula sign). Our main gate is 5 km down this dirt road on your right.
  • Go through the main gate and carry on straight down the dirt road, over the dam wall and turn left on the path to reception.

From Eastern Cape

Try the N10 to Cradock then travel to Aliwal North, Zastron, Wepener just outside Wepener turn right to Ladybrand. From Ladybarnd follow our directions from Bloemfontein.

From The Garden Route

Try the N9 via Graaff-Reinet, Middelburg and then the N1 from Colesberg to Bloemfontein and follow the directions from Bloemfontein.
